Hello, my name is Suzanne and I live in the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath.
I first ventured into the world of glass when I attended an afternoon workshop with some friends in 2014. We had real fun and experimented making coasters and little dishes. We attended a few more workshops learning how to cut the glass (needless to say, we all ended up with plasters somewhere on our fingers every time but, I really enjoyed creating something out of this material and knew I wanted to carry on as my mind was popping with ideas.
The following year my family and I went through a bad time - 2 family members were critically ill and I faced redundancy (all within the space of a few months). Thankfully they recovered after a period of time, but the experience made me reassess my priorities and understand what really made me happy.
I used my redundancy payment to buy a kiln, had a few more lessons and away I went with my ideas - needless to say, some ended up in the ‘glass bin’ but on the whole, friends, family and other people commented how lovely my creations were.
So, why did I call my company ‘Bee Happy Glass Designs’? You can read the full story in the description of my Bee Happy Collection but the short answer is that I am fascinated by bees as they make me smile every time I see one! I even called our two kittens after them - Bumble and Bea. Also after the difficult period in 2015 for my family, it was now time to ‘be happy’ so seemed really appropriate to use this in my emerging business name. Oh, our surname begins with ‘B’ too.
My aim is to create vibrant glassware for the home and garden which is both decorative and useful. All items are hand made and therefore unique: no two Bee Happy Glass Designs item will be the same.
I hope you enjoy my pieces as much as I enjoy making them.
